Blackberry India - The controversy
The government of India, concerned about the BlackBerry secure communication, directed RIM to install servers in India so that e-mail traffic can be monitored. Alternatively, the government requested RIM to part with the codes so that it can monitor the communications in real-time, if required. However, RIM is undecided about the solutions offered by the Indian government
The Indian government also made it clear to RIM that it would be impossible to operate in India in long run without conceding to its demand. The Indian government sees it as a security threat and wants all communications in and out of the country to be monitored as and when required.
RIM is confident of resolving the issue. "There should be some solution by June-end," Raja told reporters. In May, Raja had said RIM was expected to resolve India's security concerns within two months.
