According to recent news paper reports, the US law makers approved $16 billion in taxes on oil companies, while providing several billions of dollars in tax breaks/incentives for renewable energy and conservation efforts.

The US policy recommends development of alternative energy sources like expanding use of biofuels, wind power and other renewable energy sources.

It is a right step towards making the world less dependent on the natural oil reserves. Other countries like India, and China should impose similar taxes on oil companies in respective countries that are making huge profits at the expense of environment. Special funds need to be setup for research, development, and promotion of alternative energy sources in these countries. It would be highly recommended that the US share the technology know-how with other countries in development of alternative energy resources.

The world community should take lead from the US energy policy with respect to development of alternative energy sources, and taxation of companies involved in crude oil refining.
