Recent news reports that terrorism may last for a generation taken us by no surprise. It is necessary to go in to the root causes of terrorism, and attend to the same. A war that lasts for a generation is a war that is lost. Lost by both the warring factions. The primary issues of economic, social, cultural, and spiritual freedom need to be investigated, and appropriate action needs to be taken by the world community.
By this statement, it is also obvious that the war could not be won using military might, and political and social intervention is required in a wider scale.
